The goals the federation aims to achieve are:
- Formation of a federation at the European level to make themselves known, be recognised, communicate and work together, identifying themselves as a qualified interlocutor in the representing European cultural itineraries in the Council of Europe.
- Representation of the European cultural itineraries of the Camino di Santiago ways, as pilgrims walking in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims, and as special places for anyone who needs to recharge, find themselves again and rediscover a simpler, more genuine way of relating to nature and other people.
- Identification of the various associations working on European itineraries, their statutes and their goals.
- Creation of a list of interlocutors interested in and committed to the European dimension of action concerning Santiago.
- Adoption of a common logo that will be recognisable all over Europe.
- Agreement on an ecological form of signage to be shared as a common basis in all European nations, coordinating European nations.
- Promotion of symposia discussing technical aspects such as signage, hospitality, reception, etc. and study of the historic and cultural heritage.
- Sharing of good practices on the Camino de Santiago routes.
- Creation of a shared web site containing the contact information of all the participating associations and federations, with e-mail addresses and telephone numbers.
- Identification of facilities operated directly by these associations or federations, and forms of traditional hospitality in contrast to “commercial” accommodations.
- Creation of a list of requirements for pilgrim accommodations, to help pilgrims find out where to go and whom to contact.
- Establish a connection with institutions in Santiago for the management of various types of lodgings in Santiago, use of accommodation facilities, planning of seminars and meetings about the Camino de Santiago.
- Taking a stand on the virtual pilgrim credential and creating a shared European credential.
